Add a Tracking Code or Widget
In the ever-evolving world of internet technology, now, more than ever, website owners are taking advantage of tools and resources to track data and trends as well as engage socially with visitors. The analytics can benefit marketing efforts and help you to develop and shape your company goals, while social engagements attract more likes, follows and shares.
Tools like these use a code (or script) to connect their service with your website. Most tracking tools' instructions state to place the code within the website's template. Since the template is not accessible to users of the CMS, the code can be placed in a 'footer' or 'header' positioned module. Social tools' code is usually placed in a left or right side module.
To add a code (script) to your website:
- Copy the code that was provided to you, or you generated, in its entirety.
- Access: Content>Module Manager.
- Select Add New Module.
- From the scrolling list, choose Free HTML Content.
- Provide an appropriate Name for the module.
- Choose the appropriate Position.
- For tracking tools, choose "Footer" if available, otherwise choose "Header". If neither of these options are available, please contact support for advice on which alternative position to use.
- For social and all other tools, select the appropriate module position (most often used are 'left' or 'right').
- Theme should be left at Default.
- Click Add & Configure.
- Select the Free HTML Code tab.
- Place your cursor in the editor, then on your keyboard, hold CTRL + V, or Right-click>paste to place the code you had copied.
- If the tools should only be tracking/displaying on certain pages, use the Visibility tab to set your preferences, or leave it as is if it should be sitewide.
- Choose Save & Close.
- Click the 'Light Bulb' icon once to activate the module.
Some tracking codes can take time before they generate data. Please be patient and check back in 24 hours. If you are still not receiving data after 24 hours, please use the troubleshooting guide.
