Adding SKUs
A SKU is a specific combination of available product attributes (variations of the product). For example, a Nike T-shirt, size XL, green. Let's say for example, you have the same T-shirt in blue for all sizes BUT XL. If you use only attributes, all sizes will be available regardless of color. By choosing to use SKUs, you are eliminating the ability of the shopper to select the unavailable combination. SKUs also help you to track inventory of your products.
Before you can add SKUs, you must have the attributes created. You must also have the attributes added to the product. For more information, see below.
Access: Components>E-Commerce>Product Manager>Products.
- Click the 'Edit' icon.
- Choose the Attributes tab.
- Under Multiple Choice Attributes, be sure to select Only Allow Product SKUs to be Purchased.
- Select the Product SKUs tab on the left.
General Tab
- Choose Add New Product SKU.
- *(Optional) Enter a SKU and Wholesale SKU, if necessary.
A SKU is a short set of characters which serve as an internal reference to indicate the exact product (product & attributes).
- Choose a selection for each of the Multiple Choice Attributes drop-downs, making sure that the combination equates to an available product.
- If you have a Fixed Value Attribute, please select either the Default setting, or click the Value button and enter in a unique value.
- Save.
- Repeat the steps in this section for each additional SKU. If you choose to inventory, please read the section below.
Inventory Tab
If you choose to track inventory of each product SKU, follow the steps below:
- With the SKU still opened to edit, select the Inventory tab on the left.
- Change the Track Inventory? setting to YES and enter the Quantity on Hand.
- Once a SKU's quantity becomes 0, a default out of stock message will appear. However, you may customize it in the field below.
- Backordering is available by toggling the Allow Backorder setting to YES. The product SKU(s) the customer selects, will be placed in the cart along with a default Backorder Message.
- Update the Backorder Message as it pertains to your company's policy.
- Save and repeat for additional SKUs as necessary.
Backordered SKUs are still available to purchase.
