Creating Attributes
Attributes are variations of a product for a customer to choose from (ex. size, color, style, etc.). They are created and managed in one central location, then can be added to products thereafter.
Access: E-Commerce>Product Manager>Configuration>Attributes.
- Select Add New Attribute.
- Enter in the Name and Caption. (Name is what will be displayed in the back end. Caption is what will display on the front end.)
- Choose your Type and follow it's respective instructions below.
Multi-Select allows you to choose from several options, while Fixed Value offers only one, default option. For example, a hat may say, "Size: One size fits all".
Multi-Select
- Click Save & Edit.
- Select Add New Attribute Value.
- Type in the Name of the option.
- (Optional) Price Change allows you to add or subtract value from the product's original price. Enter in a positive (ex. "1") or negative (ex. "-1") value. (For example, you may charge an extra $3 for an XXL t-shirt.)
Be sure to reference the price differential in the attribute's Name field so it does not come as a surprise when it is added to the cart. (ex. "XXL (+$3)").
- If you utilize the Price Change field, then select either Flat Increase/Decrease for dollars (recommended) or Percentage Increase/Decrease for percentages.
- Omit the Image field.
- Repeat the above steps for all additional options in your attribute group.
- Click Save.
You can adjust the positioning of the options and how they will display. To do so, click the arrow and enter a number. The higher the number, the higher it will appear in the list of available options. If you do not have a preference, simply do not adjust; they will display as currently shown.
Fixed Value
- Enter your Default attribute value. This informs the customer that this value is the only option. (ex. "One size fits all" or "only black available").
- Click Save.
