Is There a Module Preview?
Unfortunately, modules do NOT contain a preview option. This is because modules can display on multiple pages, so the editor does not know which page to preview it on. This leaves you with two options:
1. Use the Apply Button
(Quick, But Will Update Immediately)
The module's Apply button will save a change, but leaves the editor window open for further edits. You will need to refresh a page the module is visible on to see the update.
- If the changes are successful, return to the editor, then click Save & Close.
- If the changes are unsuccessful, return to the editor to make additional changes until it appears as intended.
Use the 'Undo' button if necessary.
2. Create a Duplicate of the Module
(More Involved, But Will Only Be Visible to You)
If you are concerned about applying changes to a module that is live on the website, you can utilize a work-around to test its display before updating. This involves duplicating the module, to serve as a working copy. The copy will be set to become visible on a test page that only you can see. This way, you can see the changes prior to updating the live module.
Step 1: Create Test Page
- Access: Content>Page Manager>Page List.
- Select Add New Page.
- Provide a Name.
- Click Save & Continue.
- If desired, enter a line of text within the Content Editor tab (so the page doesn't appear blank).
- Save & Close.
- Select the test page's URL, located beneath the Path column.
- Leave this browser tab open; for now, go back to the previous tab with your page list.
Step 2. Duplicate the Module
When a module is duplicated, it's on/off status will carry over as well. It is very important to turn OFF the copy's light bulb immediately, to avoid both modules showing at the same time.
- Access: Content>Module Manager.
- Select the 'Duplicate' icon next to the module.
- Provide a New Name to differentiate it from the existing one.
- Click Save Copy.
- Deactivate the copy module by clicking the light bulb icon once, so it turns blue.
Step 3. Change the Visibility Settings
- Click the copy module's 'Edit' icon.
- Select the Visibility tab.
- Be sure the drop-down option is set to Hidden (as opposed to Visible).
- If any pages exist in the area below, select the 'Delete' icon for EACH one.
- Click the Include Page button.
- Use the search field above to locate the test page you had created from step 1.
Your page will start with the prefix " Content :". For example, a page that was named "Test Page" would appear as "Content : Test Page".
- Select the 'Assign' icon to the right of it.
- Save & Close.
Step 4. Edit and View
- Activate the copy module by clicking the light bulb icon once, so it turns yellow.
- Make changes to your module and click the Apply button, to leave the window open.
- Switch to the browser tab which has your test page opened (from step 1).
- Refresh the page to see updates.
- Once you are satisfied, make sure the Apply button has saved the last changes and leave the editor open.
5. Updated the Live Module
There are two ways to go about this:
First, note your editor and the Source feature's location.
