Creating Coupons
A good way to entice new customers, as well as to encourage previous ones to return, is to offer coupons. The coupon feature allows you the ability to apply either a set price, or percentage to discount from the order. You can also restrict it's eligibility by setting a minimum price amount. This will ensure that the customer spends a certain amount before their coupon validates (ex. $10 off your order of $50 or more).
Access: E-Commerce>Coupon Manager.
- Select Add New Coupon.
- Enter a Coupon Code.
Do not separate words or numbers. It should be entered as one complete group of characters, for example, "SAVE10." It is recommended to have all characters capitalized, but not required.
When redeeming coupons during checkout, customer DOES NOT need to enter code in caps. It is NOT case-sensitive.
- The Recipient field should be used for non-generic coupons only. This means that the code is designated for a single recipient, as opposed to the general public. To use this feature, enter the recipient's name. This is for internal reference.
- Notification Email is also used for non-generic coupons only. In the field, enter the email address of the individual who is assigned a coupon, solely for themselves. Once the coupon is created (and the Send Notification toggle below is set to Yes), an email will generate to the recipient with the coupon code and its details.
- Rep Email should be left blank.
- The Send Notification toggle will activate the notification process for the address placed in the Notification Email field above (if applicable). For single recipient coupons, set to Yes. For generic use coupons, set to No.
- Coupon Type refers to what the discount is being applied to, whether it be One Item or the Entire Order.
One Item will discount the highest priced item in the cart.
- Value Type allows you to select a Flat Rate or a Percentage of the Coupon Type to be discounted.
- Enter in the Value of the discount, whether it be a dollar or percentage amount.
DO NOT enter "$" or "%" characters, only the number.
- Apply Only at Minimum Amount allows you to set a designated dollar amount that must be reached in order to validate the coupon being used.
DO NOT enter a "$" character, only the number.
The apply only at minimum amount feature is available on CMS versions released after August 2015. If you do not have this feature available to you, please submit a request to receive an upgrade.
- Expires After should be configured based upon whether or not it is a generic coupon. One Use should be used for single recipients. This will not allow the coupon to be redeemed more than once. Only After Expiration is used for generic coupons and will allow you to choose an expiration date that the coupon will become inactive.
- Expire Type offers you the option to pick a set Expiration Date or choose a Number of Valid Days.
- Based upon your Expire Type setting (above), select from the calendar an expiration date, or enter the number of valid days.
- Reference Code is an alternate version of the coupon's name for internal reference only. It is used as a way to distinguish coupons from one another.
Q: Can I have a coupon be applicable to just certain items?
A: At this time, coupon codes cannot be targeted towards specific products, nor a specific quantity of items.
