Create a Redirect (Alias)
A redirect, otherwise known as an alias, is a URL that when accessed, redirects to another URL. These are most often used to direct web traffic from an old version of a webpage or document to a new version, thus avoiding a "404 - Page Not Found" error.
There are two types of URL Aliases: Internal and External.
Internal directs a page/document to another page/document within your website, while External directs a URL from your website to a different website.
- Access: Content>Page Manager>URL Aliases.
- Select the Add URL Alias button.
- Enter the Original URL.
- Choose and follow the instructions for Internal or External below.
Internal
- Click the 'Page Picker' icon.
- From the Show Link Grouping drop-down, choose your destination.
For your website pages, choose Content: Pages.
- You may use the filters as the top to locate the correct page. Then, select the 'Link Insert' icon to the left of the respective page.
- Click Save.
External
- Change the Website Page drop-down to Direct URL.
- In the field beneath, enter in the full URL you want to link to, including the "http://" or "https://".
- Click Save.
Some URLs are reserved by the system and cannot be used in redirects. Each management component has a public, 'root' URL (ex. news is "/news", blog is "/blog", etc.). Because these are already taken, you will not be able to use them within the alias manager. If attempted, an error message will generate, stating "The web path is reserved by the system." To work around this, provide a variation of the URL like "/company-news" or "/our-blog".
